This was a beautiful show. I had seen him several times before, but this might be the best time yet. Bird can create an amazing range of sounds and combinations through his electronic looping equipment, but now it seems like he is also learning to combine the natural looseness of his style with the tightness of a full band. The highlight of the night was the way the notes seeming to be physically floating in the air all around me during "Anonanimal" which then bled straight into the spacious and ephemeral "Natural Disaster." I was left with a desire to quit my job and follow him on the rest of his tour.

When does sound turn into noise?

Come with me as I reveal that answer and many more as we ride the plastic-framed-glasses coaster through the Andrew Bird concert.

It all began with a very touching and inspiring moment when Andrew Bird acknowledged the thrill of realizing his childhood dream of his premier performance at the Chicago Civic Opera House. But when did hyper-intellectual, self indulgent, I’m-going-to-wipe-your-face-with-my-history-book-and-pop-culture-allusions-until-you’re-kicked-out-of-Mensa music first appear on the scene?
