I've been going to concerts for nearly 40 years. Well over 450 acts. I've seen the best, the good, the bad and the ugly. This was my 4th Counting Crows show. Missing two players, the band could have easily cancelled the tour. Instead, along with their tour partners Augustana, they cobbled together and created The Traveling Circus and Medicine Show......which in many ways reminded me of Joe Cocker's 1970 solution to his similar problem, which was dubbed "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" . Adam Duritz came out and performed an acoustic song 30 minutes before the show began. The venue was maybe 10% full at that point. what a treat! Twenty minutes later, he came out with Augustana for another freebie. When the curtain "officially" opened, there were 13 artists on stage (including Emmy Rossum, who can just plain flat out sing). Thoughout the three hour show (no intermission and only a minute before the encore), there were multiple variations of bands on the stage, including just Crows and just Augusta. Duritz, like Cocker back in '70, wanted (and I think got) the audience to grasp the concept of the whole is bigger than the parts concept. It worked........13 talented artists came together as one. And although there was talent beyond talent on the stage, it was pretty clearer where the biggest talent (and leadership) was....and that was Duritz. So that you don't have to read between the lines, that;s kudos to all 13, Adam just gets an extra fist-bump. Aside from each bands songs, we were treated with versions of the Rolling Stones, "Sweet Virginia", Joe Cocker's (coincidence?), "Delta Lady" and a Cocker-esk version of the Beatles, "With A little help from my Friends", Dylan's "Just Like a Woman" and Guthrie's "This Land is Your Land". Like I said, I've pretty much seen it all before. But I gotta tell ya, I put this one in the top five of all time for sheer pleasure and entertainment. I smiled non-stop for three-plus hours. To "the band" and the entire crew, thank you!

The first time I saw Counting Crows was in 1996 at Indiana University. Still one of the best concerts I ever attended. The most recent Counting Crows concert I attended was one of the worst concerts I have ever attended. I know it must be hard to continue to play you "hit" songs from 15 years ago, but a lot of bands continue to do it - just not Counting Crows. The moderately small venue was half full due to a mix of overpriced tickets and what I can guess would be alienated fans. I can now say that I am one of those fans now and will probably never pay to see them again in concert.

This was my 5th time out of a total of 6 times for me seeing Counting Crows in concert. Those times, not a second I've been disappointed. They put on such a great show and if you ever and i mean EVER get the opprotunity do NOT drop it. With singer Adam Duritz's 100% emotional and beautiful performances you will never be let down! And have i mentioned they change their setlist every single night by a mile?? This show at Hershey that I've signed this review to, was a beautiful acoustic set. The Crows can tune it down but kick it right back up with an old classic "Angels of the Silences" or a new one of their latest release Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings called "1492." The band can surely handle dynamics. :)

I had seen Counting Crows twice before and had differing experiences. On the "Recovering The Satellites" tour (with Fiona Apple), they blew me away; I wasn't prepared for the sonic assault of the rhythm section, especially the guitars. The second time I saw them, with the Wallflowers, I was sorely disappointed. Adam Duritz just seemed to pontificate for 90 minutes. Sadly, Friday's show was a repeat of the second time I saw them -- perhaps even worse. Gone was the clarity in the guitars, and Adam just seemed to ramble -- reinventing songs to the point that Bob Dylan would scratch his head. It's ironic that Maroon 5 opened up because at least a third of the audience left during the Counting Crows' set. I'm not a fan of Maroon 5, but they easily stole the show on this night.
