Had the good fortune of catching Kathleen Edwards and her band at, as she postulated mid-way through the set, the best room in Vancouver. This young woman enthralled us all with a gutsy performance clearly showing why she has been mentioned in the same vein as Lucinda Williams. She can handle both acoustic and rhythm guitar very well but has the benefit of a killer lead guitar player who went to the Neil Young school of Crazy Horse guitar solos. The band hit the groove on many tunes during crescendoing closing jams. Joined by an able bass player and a straight forward drummer providing the backbeat, Kathleen displayed all of the prerequisites of making it big south of the border. I would only suggest that she pursue the high road in her banter and cut out the repugnant expletives. It does not suit her future nor the excellence of her tunes. A very very good songwriter!
