The longest running music series in the history of American television is getting new digs thanks to a grant from the Moody Foundation of Galveston, Texas.

“Austin City Limits,” which has been taped at a 320-seat studio on the campus of the University of Texas since 1974, will move into a state-of-the-art 2,750 seat theatre in 2011.

The Moody Theatre, which is expected to include the latest in HD recording and broadcast equipment, is part of a planned downtown Austin development that will also feature a hotel and housing.

The show’s original studio was recently designated a landmark by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

To celebrate that honor and to mark ACL’s 35th season, PBS is streaming the pilot episode of the series, which featured Willie Nelson and aired Oct. 17, 1974, until Nov. 17.
